Dental Care is Critical to Your Health!

Regular visits to the dentist ensure that your mouth and gums remain healthy.
Don't put it off! We will make your experience comfortable and pleasant.

Dental health not only involves taking care of the teeth but also taking care of the gums. Gingivitis or periodontal disease is a chronic infection caused by bacteria that exist at the gum line. This causes inflammation and easy bleeding and if not treated may lead to tooth loss. When teeth become decayed or are missing, gums can be inflamed and infected, overall health and well-being can be affected in many ways:

Ability to chew:

  • The ability to chew and swallow food is essential for getting the nutrients we need for good health. People who have infected teeth and gums or those who lose their teeth may have difficulty eating enough food and the right kind of foods for good nutrition simply because they are unable to chew.

Diabetes:

  • Diabetic patients with poor dental hygiene may find it difficult to maintain good sugars. Not only can poor oral health interfere with appropriate nutrition but a patient who is constantly battling infection in the mouth may also have difficulty controlling their blood sugars.
  • Infection can be a trigger for blood sugars to be abnormally elevated in patients with diabetes. Furthermore, high sugars may mean more dental problems creating a cycle that can be difficult to break.

Heart Attacks and Stroke:

  • In recent scientific studies, poor oral hygiene has been linked to coronary artery disease including heart attacks and strokes. Patients with extremely decayed teeth, gingivitis, missing teeth and dental caries (cavities) were noted to have a higher incidence of heart disease and stroke.
  • Problems during Pregnancy:
  • Poor dental hygiene has also been connected to certain problems during pregnancy such as pre-term labor and low birth weight. Dental care is an important part of pre-natal care.
